1. Who this applies to
These terms govern your use of the Picture the Words website (the "Site") and browser extension (the "Extension"), together the "Service," operated by the creator of Picture the Words. By using the Site or Extension, you agree to these terms.
2. What's free vs. paid
Browsing the visual dictionary on the Site — searching, viewing flashcards, and using personal notes — is free, with no account required for browsing itself (an account is needed to save notes or reviews to your own deck). The Extension's flashcard integration (saving words while browsing and reviewing them with spaced repetition) requires a one-time purchase for the specific language pair you want, as described on the Pricing page.
3. What you get when you buy a language pair
A language-pair purchase is a one-time fee that unlocks the Extension's flashcard integration for that pair, for personal, non-commercial use, for as long as the Service is offered. It includes future improvements to that pair at no extra cost. It does not include rights to redistribute, resell, or share the underlying content, and it isn't transferable to another person.
4. Refunds
If you're not satisfied, you can request a full refund within 14 days of purchase — no detailed justification required, just get in touch with the email you purchased with. Refunds are processed back to your original payment method and typically take 5–10 business days to appear, depending on your bank. Once a refund is issued, access to that language pair's flashcard integration is removed.
Requests made after 14 days will be considered individually but aren't guaranteed. If you believe there's a defect in the product itself (missing content, a broken feature), reach out any time — that's treated separately from a standard change-of-mind refund.
5. Accounts and activation
Purchases are tied to the account/email used at checkout. You're responsible for keeping access to that account; we can't transfer a license to a different account without reasonable proof you're the original purchaser.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to: circumvent or attempt to circumvent the license/activation system; scrape, redistribute, or resell the flashcard content, illustrations, audio, or translations; use the Service in any way that violates applicable law; or attempt to disrupt or overload the Service's infrastructure.
7. Content ownership
All flashcard content, illustrations, translations, and structural design on the Site and Extension are the original work of the creator, © Picture the Words, unless otherwise credited.
8. Third-party data
Some dictionary and vocabulary data is drawn from third-party open resources, credited in the footer of every page (JMdict/EDICT, IndoWordNet), used in accordance with their respective licences.
9. Service availability
We aim to keep the Site and Extension available and working offline once activated, but we don't guarantee uninterrupted availability, and features may be added, changed, or removed as the product develops — particularly during this early (MVP) stage.
10. Limitation of liability
The Service is provided "as is." To the extent permitted by law, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't legally be limited (for example, in cases of fraud).
11. Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated from time to time; meaningful changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the Site or Extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
